Midwifery Practice Eindhoven
Midwifery Practice Eindhoven is a midwifery practice which has its main location in the area Meerhoven since 2003. Starting from 2016 we also have a second location at SGE-International; a health care center specialized in health care for expats and other internationals.
There are quite some differences between receiving health care in the Netherlands and the care you have received in your home country, especially concerning the medical care for pregnancy and delivery. We understand that these differences can be overwhelming, even distressing. In our midwifery practice we take the time to explain what you can expect from our care. We encourage a shared decision model so that you feel safe and comfortable in the care you receive.
In the Netherlands there is a unique system of midwives and gynecologists. Midwives guide the healthy pregnancies and regular births. A gynecologist steps in when complications arise. A midwife is primarily a medical expert. But, aside from this she is also a coach and a onfidant during the whole pregnancy period.
A midwife has had an intensive education of 4 years to get a bachelor degree. During those 4 years a midwife in training spends 50% of her time doing internships, so by the end of her training she has witnessed and assisted already a few hundred deliveries.
When you are pregnant, you can call us immediately to make an appointment. During the pregnancy we will meet with you regularly throughout your pregnancy. During the appointments we will monitor your health and the health of your baby. Beside that we will tell you everything you need to know about pregnancy and childbirth. Most of the ultrasounds that are made, can also be done at our own practice.
In principal, if there are no complications during your pregnancy or delivery, you are allowed to choose where you want to deliver: in the hospital or at home ('the Dutch way'). In both cases we can guide you during your delivery. After your baby is born you will discover another typical Dutch phenomenon: 'kraamzorg', a nurse that will take care of you and your child at your own home.
It is also possible to make an appointment with us if you are planning to get pregnant. In our 'trying to conceive'-office hour we can tell you everything you need to know about getting pregnant in a healthy way. By doing this you can influence the outcome of a pregnancy in a positive way.
We are looking forward to meeting you.
