Children get a lot of days off from school in the Netherlands. There is also a ruling that a school is allowed a number of free days to allocate at their discretion. It is therefore possible that you could have two children in different schools with different days off!
To avoid major traffic jams during holiday periods, school term dates vary by region, and depending on the type of school.
The summer holiday for primary schools is six weeks, and is seven weeks for secondary schools.
Holidays are staggered across three national regions: north, central and south.
Brabant belongs to 'regio zuid' (the south region).
More information about school holidays can be found on the website of the Government of the Netherlands.
